Looking for a Prom Dress to Flatter Your Figure?
Not sure which body type best describes your figure? Read on below for more information on each body type and tips for flattering your figure.
BUSTY - The busty body type is gorgeous and has a wide variety of styles are suited for you. A busty body type is exemplified by a large bust and narrow hips. The waist is often not well defined. The key to dressing a busty body type is to draw attention up to your face and to balance the broader upper body with the narrower lower body, to create an overall balanced appearance. This is achieved by choosing dresses that add curves to the hips while creating a more defined waist. If you love your legs, show them off, but be sure not to go too short with the hemline or you can create an unbalanced look.
APPLE - The apple body type is beautifully well-suited for many dress styles. An apple body type typically carries weight through the middle section, has slim legs, and a shorter undefined waistline. A dress with an empire waist or embellished top draws the eye to your upper body. An a-line dress, dress with a full skirt, or dress accented with ruching can help flatter the midsection. If you love your legs, be sure to show them off in one of the short or high-low designer dresses!
SLENDER - The slender body type is defined as having an overall thin frame. Slender body types look lovely in dresses that accentuate the long and lean physique, like fitted dresses. You can also choose to create shape with an empire waist, asymmetric neckline, belted waist, or a dress featuring a slit, as this will add curves and dimension to your look.
HOURGLASS - The hourglass figure is typically curvy and voluminous. Bust and hips are proportionate to each other and the upper body is balanced with the length of the legs. The best dresses for this body type will accentuate the best asset, which is usually a well-defined waist. Natural waistlines form-fitted tops, v-necklines, open necklines, accentuated waistlines and wrap dresses will all look great and enhance an hourglass body type.
PEAR - The pear body type is suited for a variety of designer looks. A pear body type typically has hips larger than the bust, and the waist is well defined. When dressing a pear body shape, the goal is to add volume to the upper body, emphasize the small waist, and de-emphasize the lower body to create a balanced silhouette. We recommend a dress with a fitted open neck or strapless top and full or a-line skirt to help pear-shaped girls look their best.
PETITE - If you have a petite body type, you are typically under 5 feet 4 inches tall. Showing a little leg with a short dress can go a long way, or wearing an asymmetrical hemline to elongate your figure. Floor-length gowns and full skirts tend to overwhelm your frame, but high-low dresses can be fun. Opt for slim-fitting dresses with v-necklines, vertical prints, or pleating to visually lengthen your frame. Delicate, feminine dresses are a great compliment to your body type and the perfect pair of high heels is always a great accessory.
